Travel Guide

Alternatively, try the office located on the Avenida Diagonal Roque, entre Saenz Peno and Florida, Mon – Fri 9am – 5pm. You can also visit the Galerias Pacifico shopping centre on Avenida Florida and on the first floor you can find a tourist office open Mon – Fri, 10am – 7pm, Sat 11am – 7pm.

The famous Café Tortoni, Avenida de Mayo 829, Mon – Fri 2pm – 6pm, can provide you with help while you sip a cool drink or the kiosk on the corner of Avenida LaMadrid and Avenida Caminito in La Boca (Fri, Sat & Sun, 10am – 5pm).

For more specialised enquiries, contact the Secretaria de Tourismo, Sarmiento 1551, 5th floor, Mon – Fri, 10am – 5pm, telephone 011 4372 3612.

If you are having trouble understanding the numerous bus routes then buy a copy of the combined bus and street map, called Guia Lumi or Guia “T”. They are relatively expensive, but provide a valuable guide to the city and can be found at information kiosks. For entertainment listings and details about events in and around the city, pick up a free copy of El Tanguata or Buenos Aires Tango.

Buenos Aires is considered to be a very humid city, meaning that during the summer months (December – March) the heat can be almost unbearable, with temperatures registering 30 degrees but feeling more like 40 degrees, in sharp contrast to the chill of the winter months (July – October). Spring and Autumn are the best times to go as there are plenty of activities going on outside with people making the most of the glorious weather. Keep an umbrella handy though as there’s always the chance of a rain shower at any time of the year.
